Animal Behavior & Training Services

Humane Domain Humane Domain provides animal behavior consultation and training services for dogs, horses, other pets, aquatic life, as well as animal sanctuaries and zoos. All training is natural, holistic and humane, using operant conditioning with an emphasis on positive reinforcement. A variety of classes are available, with something for everyone - from training and behavior counseling for dogs (puppies and seniors), cats and, birds, to horses, small animals and aquatic life.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: Please note that Humane Domain training will be canceled if Baltimore County and Carroll County schools are closed due to weather conditions. In cases of classes falling on a weekend or if you are uncertain, please call 410.549.1135 and listen to our recording for further instruction.

For Pet Dogs

Puppy Kindergarten (puppies 8 - 16 weeks)

 

Start your puppy off right! Puppies are socialized with new people and new puppies - an essential part of any puppy's education. In addition, basic sits and downs are taught with an overview of basic dog care. Particular attention is placed on childproofing your puppy.

Puppy K is also offered every Saturday at Humane Domain on White Rock Rd, Classes are ongoing, call for more information and to register.

Basic Obedience (4 months and up)

 

All the basics for a well mannered dog. The class begins with an orientation to our style of training as well as lots of essential puppy raising information. The owners will be taught to communicate with their dogs while teaching the dogs to sit, down, walk on a loose leash, come and stay. Dogs also socialize with other dogs and people during class giving a good foundation for a well-rounded dog. Classes are 5 weeks long, call for rates.

Private and Semi-Private Training

 

We also provide semi-private classes that are limited to 2-4 dogs, individual instruction at our facility or in your home.

Refine your Relationship (6 months and up)

 

Create a therapeutic atmosphere as we guide you and your dog through exercises designed to enhance your communication and honor your relationship. Bridge and targeting are introduced in this class as well as agility fundementals. Additionally, basic training skills are reinforced and enhanced with an emphasis on the skills that are required to pass the Canine Good Citizen test. This class is a prerequisite for those dogs interested in becoming therapy or assistance dogs. Classes are 5 weeks long, call for rates.

Canine Good Citizen

 

The canine good citizen class prepares you and your dog to be able to pass 10 tests which include your dog being greeted by a stranger without jumping, being calm with another dog, being able to hand your dog to another handler and walk away without reacting, and having a well behaved dog in public. The class is eight weeks long, call for rates.

Level I Agility (over 4 months)

 

All obstacles are introduced in a safe, motivational manner. Very basic handling is introduced with extra attention on the dog-handler relationship. Classes are 5 weeks long, weather dependent, call for rates.

Level II Agility (over 10 months)

 

For those who just can't get enough agility! A continuing class that emphasizes handling and increasing the dogs' confidence in working with the handler. Classes are 5 weeks long, are weather dependent, call for rates.

Level III Agility (over 12 months)

 

This class is designed to prepare you and your dog for agility competition. Classes are ongoing, are weather dependent and fees are paid quarterly.

Therapy Dog Class (6 months and up)

 

Prepare your dog for a career in visiting hospitals, nursing homes or other health care agencies. Your dog will be exposed to equipment utilized in health care situations and will learn several tricks to impress your audience. The final class includes a visit to a nursing home. Classes are 5 weeks long and are offered four times a year, call for rates.

Advanced Obedience Classes (6 months and up)

 

All advanced obedience skills are taught using clicker techniques. Classes are ongoing and fees are paid quarterly.

Behavior Modification Programs

 

Specializing in behavior modification for dogs suffering from anxiety disorders, we offer personalized programs for dogs with a variety of behavioral problems.

Periodically throughout the year, we hold agility run-thrus in conjunction with Canine Good Citizen testing and Therapy Dog International testing as well as educational classes. All of our counselors are certified animal behavior counselors and trainers or in the process of obtaining certification. All instructors teaching dog training classes are also assistance dog trainers.
